Lorilei recently transitioned into her role as a Service Coordinator at TAC after working as a Direct Support Professional, and that experience continues to shape how she supports and advocates for the individuals she serves. Her connection to TAC’s mission runs deep, both personally and professionally, and her passion for empowerment is evident in everything she does.
We caught up with Lorilei to learn more about her role, what inspires her, and why this work is so meaningful.
How would you describe your role at TAC?
“I’m currently a Service Coordinator. I loved being a DSP, but this role allows me to focus more on advocacy and helping individuals meet their goals and achieve what they want while at TAC.”
What parts of TAC’s mission do you connect with the most?
“Empowering people and encouraging them to share their voice. That’s one of the most important parts of this work to me.”
What’s your favorite part of working at TAC?
“The people. The individuals we serve and the staff here have made a huge impact on my life. I’ve met people I’m proud to call not just coworkers, but friends.”
What aspect of your job do you find the most rewarding?
“Understanding an unmet need and figuring out how to meet it. Getting to truly know someone makes all the difference.”
Can you share a moment when you felt especially proud to be part of TAC?
“I’m always proud to be part of TAC. I’m on the spectrum myself and I’m also the parent of a child on the spectrum, so this community means a lot to me. TAC has been part of my life for as long as I can remember as I had an uncle who was one of the participants here until he passed, making it feel very full circle to work here now.”
What’s one of your favorite memories from your time at TAC?
“On Halloween, one of the ladies joined us on a trip to a haunted house. She was scared but held my hand and made it through. When she finished, she proudly told everyone she had ‘won Halloween.’ We all did.”
What do you think is the most important quality someone needs to be successful in this field?
“Empathy and patience. Taking the time to truly understand someone, especially when communication looks different, is extremely important.”
Lorilei brings empathy, advocacy, and a deep personal connection to her work at TAC. Her commitment to listening, understanding, and uplifting others makes her an incredible support for the individuals she serves and a valued member of the TAC team.
